How Libraries Can Help
Libraries can serve as Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sites and help fill the summer meal gap. Sites are encouraged to provide healthy, enriching activities in addition to feeding children. Many libraries already have summer reading programs that can partner perfectly with summer meals.
"Let's Do Lunch" is a year long project facilitated by Katie Springer of the Indiana State Library and Lauri Chandler of the Vigo County Public Library. Our mission is to help more libraries in the state of Indiana collaborate with local agencies to provide summer meals for youth in need. If your library is already doing this, please visit our blog and share your story of what works for you. We will be researching communities throughout the state during this year to provide condensed information on how to get started and partnering options. If you are ready to make this happen in your area, consider us your Library/Lunch Lady Consultants and utilize our resources or contact us for further information.
